Sylvia Chimbo

Sylvia graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Physical Education and minor in Spanish. She did her student teaching in Quito, Ecuador and was hired by The American Alliance Academy to be their girls’ Phys Ed. teacher. Being a former college gymnast, Sylvia saw the need for a young girl’s gymnastics team.  At the time there was only a men’s team so she started and trained the first girls gymnastics team in Quito, Ecuador.

While living in South America, Sylvia got involved in The Pichincha Playhouse Theater group in Quito Ecuador, where she choreographed and played Patty in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.  Choreographed and played Dulcey in The Boy Friend and choreographed and danced in the ensemble of Oliver. A few years later Sylvia found herself back in Arizona and continued to choreograph and participate in dance productions and theater at Mesa Community College and the Mesa Arts Center. One of her favorite productions at the Mesa Arts Center was Jungle Book, where she played Kaa the snake. Sylvia has performed with some local artist productions such as Zarco Guerrero’s La Pastorela and some of his Dia de Los Muertos festivals.

Sylvia has been in different theatrical environments and believes that Almost Famous Theatre Company run by Jan and Garth Williams has been the most talented, fun, and caring groups of people that she has encountered in theater so far. It is all due to the professional standards, leadership, and respect that Jan and Garth show towards their actors and students. Sylvia has performed in the AFTC productions of Young FrankensteinThe Odd Couple9 to 5: The MusicalGypsy, and The Drowsy Chaperone.

Sylvia is signed with The Ford Robert Black Agency and is a bilingual actor.
